June 11, 2013 - 3 Miles; 23:57

I got home from work today and Carrie had some Relief Society people over.  I thought it would be a great time to get out of her hair and go for a quick run.  I wasn't slated to run again until tomorrow, but I thought I would get it out of the way and take a day off later in the week.  My intention was to only go for 20 minutes (10 out, 10 back), but that went out the window when I was almost to my turnaround at the 10 minute mark.  I decided to keep going to the 1.5 and turn around for a full three.  It felt really good on the way out, but not so much on the way back.  I think that was partly because I set out on a 20 minute pace and ended up going for a bit more.  I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but an extra 4 minutes is a lot when I'm this early on in my running.  I have a half marathon coming up in four and a half weeks on July 13th, and I really hope I'm going to be in shape for it.  The longest run I'm going to do before then is only 5 miles, so hopefully the mileage is going to be enough.

Running Journal

I think I want to try to start writing a running journal, and I figure the best place to do it is here.  I have been running on a 'Build to 20 Miles/Week' running plan for the last two and a half weeks.  It is a 10 week plan that goes from doing 9 miles the first week to 20 miles in the last week.  The first week I did 9 miles; last week I did 10.  I'm slated for 12 this week and am on track to get it.  My next posts are going to have my thoughts about not only the miles ran, but my thoughts during the miles.  Kind of a confessions-of-a-runner sort of thing.  Hope it works out!

I am not good at school.  I never have been.  This doesn't reflect on my smarts or intelligence; I'm just not good at homework and keeping up with the politics of the classroom.

I can be as indecisive as you are sometimes.  And I know that you want me to make decisions and be confident in them, but I also want to make you happy and I need your opinion to make a good decision.  I appreciate and value your opinion on things and will usually swing the way you want to do things.

I don't mind dishes in the sink.  When the sink starts to get full, I'll load the dishwasher, but I don't mind dishes in the sink.

Today is the first day I haven't seen you since our first date on September 4th.  That's a really long time.  And yet, I still can't stop thinking about you.

I am really bad at writing.  Maybe it's my mentality of becoming a PE teacher, but I reeeeeaaaaallly don't like writing, or taking classes for that matter, that don't apply to my major.  It think it's pointless and I have a really hard time finding the motivation to do it.

Gonna try this

So I keep thinking of things for Carrie to know about me, but I always forget to write them down somewhere for her to know.  SO, I'm going to give this whole blog thing another try.  I'll try and post something for her to know about me just like she's doing for me.  Here goes for today:

I am a sports addict.  There is not a single day of the year that does not have a professional sport going, so get used to me going over to my dad's house to watch games, especially on Saturdays in the fall, evenings in March, and any time the Braves are playing.

Life is good...for the most part. But it's still good.

Welcome to the blog of the Cash Man!!  I've seen enough people make one of these and it sounds fun, so I thought I'd do it too.

So I guess I should explain the title of this post a bit.  Life is good.  There's no denying that.  I have a wonderful life with a wonderful family, going to a wonderful school and I have wonderful friends.  Life could not be much better.  I have a great calling that allows me to interact with so many wonderful people.  Life is great.

I've been running a lot lately.  I used to be big into it.  I ran in high school and was pretty good.  Top of the Meridian Varsity senior year, but that doesn't mean much.  We weren't that good that year.  Anywho, I've had knee problems lately.  Lately meaning since around January 2009.  I was high jumping at indoor track and something in my knees went wrong.  It kinda bites because I can't jump anymore.  I only know how to do a few things in life, and jumping is one of them.  Thank heavens for my coaching job so I can still help others do it.  Anyways...so I haven't run in a long time because of that.  So I went running on Wednesday and everything felt fine for about a mile and a half.  I was running good pace and I felt good to keep going.  My knee started hurting though.  I usually wear braces on both knees because the doc said it would help with the pain.  I was only wearing one on my left leg because that was the only one that had been hurting.  Keep in mind I've been doing 15-ish miles a week for a few weeks.  You know the feeling when you pinch a nerve somewhere and that extremity goes numb?  That's what my let felt like.  Within four or five steps, I could feel the feeling going out of my leg from the knee down.  I had to stop and walk, something I don't do when I run.  It wasn't good.  Since then, my knee has felt like I twisted it.  Not a good feeling.  I don't know what to do about it.  Moral of the story is don't push harder than I should.  Need to learn that.  Either way, I still have a body that can run, and that's more than a lot of people can say.  Life is good.
